Registering an enterprise: institutions & their purposes

A bright idea is not yet a legal business. Before you may trade in Namibia, your enterprise must be registered with the right authorities. In this lesson we visit each institution an entrepreneur must register with — MITSMED, the local or traditional authority, the Social Security Commission, NamRA, the Bank of Namibia or NAMFISA, and Co-operative Development — and for every one we ask the same simple question: what is the purpose of registering here?

- List the various institutions where enterprises should be registered and describe what the purpose of the registration at the various institutions are (Ministry of Industrialisation, Trade and SME development; Local Authorities (municipalities/village councils/town councils) or Traditional Authorities; Social Security Commission; Directorate of Inland Revenue; Bank of Namibia / Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (NAMFISA) for financial institutions; Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry, Division of Co-operative Development for Co-operatives)
