- Select from a text only the details that are relevant to a specific purpose, and ignore the rest.
- Distinguish a main idea from a supporting detail or example.
- Synthesise points scattered across different parts of a text (or across two texts) into one coherent answer.
- Express selected points in your own words rather than copying the writer's sentences.
- Organise chosen points into a logical order.
- Write concisely, with no padding and no repetition.
- Apply the skill to own-words comprehension answers and to directed writing tasks.
