  • Recognise the email as one of the four Section B directed-writing forms (email, speech, article, blog).
  • Lay out an email correctly: subject line, greeting, purpose-opening, body paragraphs and sign-off with a name.
  • Choose an appropriate register and tone to suit the audience and the purpose.
  • Distinguish formal, semi-formal and friendly greetings, closings and phrasing.
  • Select and rephrase ideas from a given source text in their own words, without copying.
  • Write a directed email that stays within the 220–260 word limit.
