- Open a speech with an effective hook — a question, a startling fact, or a short story.
- Plan a speech using a clear structure: hook and greeting, main points, call to action, and a memorable close.
- Identify and use rhetorical devices: rhetorical questions, the rule of three, repetition, and direct appeal.
- Adapt tone and register to a stated audience and purpose, such as a school assembly versus a community meeting.
- Use ideas from a source text without copying, putting them into a spoken style and your own words.
- Write a directed speech of 220 to 260 words that persuades and ends memorably.
