What you'll learn in this lesson
By the end you should be able to (NSSCAS English Second Language (AS) 5.1.11):
- Identify the article as one of the Section B directed-writing forms and state its purpose.
- Name and explain the conventions of an article: headline, subheading, byline, introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion.
- Write a catchy, relevant headline and an introduction that draws the reader in.
- Balance factual information with an engaging, lively voice.
- Suit the article to its publication and audience, choosing an appropriate (usually semi-formal) register.
- Use ideas from a source text without copying it word for word.
- Plan and shape a complete article of 220 to 260 words.
