Every business needs someone to make it work — to plan the way ahead, arrange the people, lead the team, keep everything together and check that the job gets done. That someone is a manager. In this lesson we learn what effective management really means and why a business needs it, the five functions a manager performs every day, the qualities that make a manager good at the job, and the three levels of business decision — strategic, tactical and operational — matched to the level of manager who makes each one.
