Solving trigonometric equations
Narrated lesson · press play
Ready to become an equation-solving machine? In this lesson you will learn Miss Eve's four-step master method for solving sine, cosine and tangent equations in any interval, in degrees or radians. You will conquer the famous sin 2x trap by widening the interval before you solve, handle fractions like cos(x/2), and rearrange messier equations into a solvable shape. By the end you will find EVERY solution, not just the one your calculator gives you.
What you'll learn in this lesson
By the end you should be able to (NSSCAS Mathematics (AS) 1.6.4):
- Find all solutions, in degrees or radians and within a specified interval, of the equations sin(nx) = k, cos(nx) = k and tan(nx) = k, where n is a small integer or a simple fraction
- Solve equations easily reducible to these forms by rearranging first (general forms of solution are not required)
