The League of Nations: success or failure?

After the horror of the First World War, the world tried something brand new — a League of Nations where countries would solve their quarrels by talking instead of fighting. We'll look at its aims and how it was organised, weigh its real successes in the calm 1920s against its humanitarian work, then watch it fail the two great tests of the 1930s — Manchuria and Abyssinia — and finally judge whether failure was built into the League from the very start.
