Resistance & the liberation movements

Apartheid was never accepted quietly — it met resistance at every turn. In this lesson we trace how that resistance grew and changed: from the polite petitions of the early African National Congress, up through the mass defiance and the Freedom Charter of the 1950s, to the tragedy of Sharpeville in 1960, the turn to armed struggle, and the revival of pride under Black Consciousness. Then we tackle the great AS question: did the government's harsh repression crush the opposition, or did it actually radicalise it?
