Civil War, War Communism & the New Economic Policy

Having seized power in October 1917, the Bolsheviks now had to keep it. In this lesson we follow the brutal Civil War of 1918–21 and work out why the Reds beat the Whites, study the harsh emergency of War Communism and the terrible famine it helped to cause, feel the shock of the Kronstadt revolt, and watch Lenin retreat into his New Economic Policy. We'll finish with the great AS question: how far was the NEP a success?
