The Paris Peace Treaties & the dissatisfaction of Germany, Italy & Japan

In 1919 and 1920 the victors of the First World War met in Paris to build a lasting peace. We often say 'the Treaty of Versailles', but the settlement was really five treaties that redrew the map of Europe and beyond. In this lesson we meet the three great powers who left Paris bitter — a crushed Germany, and, surprisingly, two of the winners, Italy and Japan — and we ask the real Advanced Subsidiary question: why did the settlement leave so many powers dissatisfied, and how far did it sow the seeds of a second great war?
