The independent Namibian state, 1990–2000: challenges, the UN & SADC

In 1990 Namibia finally became free — but freedom was only the beginning of the work. In this lesson we meet the new nation of 1990, study its admired constitution and the brave policy of national reconciliation, and then face the heavy challenges it inherited from apartheid. We follow Namibia back into the world through the United Nations and the Commonwealth, into the region through SADC, and the recovery of Walvis Bay in 1994 — and we finish with the great exam question: how far did all of this help Namibia meet its challenges?
