Why the search for international order failed by the late 1930s

In the late 1920s the world looked hopeful — a peaceful order built on treaties, the League and American loans. Then, in 1929, it began to fall apart. We'll trace how the Great Depression bred desperation and dictatorship, watch the League fail its two great tests over Manchuria and Abyssinia, follow Hitler's steps and the policy of appeasement, and finish with the great exam question: how far did appeasement make war more likely?
