Climate change & the urban impact on climate

One of the biggest issues of our time, taken slowly and carefully. In this AS lesson we begin with the natural greenhouse effect and see how burning fossil fuels and clearing forests have enhanced it, driving measured global warming. We weigh the evidence and the causes, look at the global effects — rising seas, shifting rains, wilder weather — and the local effects that bite hard in dry Namibia. Then we zoom right in on the city itself: the urban heat island and why towns are warmer, drier, sometimes wetter downwind and windier in their canyons. Windhoek is our case study, and we finish on the two responses every geographer must weigh — mitigation and adaptation.
